Livorno is one of Europe's main cruise ship ports. It is the maritime gateway for the Italian region of Tuscany. Although Livorno itself is not a major tourist destination (compared to Florence, Pisa, Lucca, Sienna), it is a city that many tourists pass through when transferring from cruise ships and ferries to trains and coaches.
The cruise ship port is located several kilometers away from Livorno's central train station. Hence, it is advisable to travel by coach or taxi from the port to the train station or one of Livorno's hotels.
